Facebook like pages, (also known as Facebook welcome pages, or custom fan pages), are a very important thing to get right, if you want to drive traffic and sales to your business from Facebook.
A custom welcome page on Facebook is the face of your business on one of the largest sites in the world. There are two schools of thought on the best way to design a Facebook like page that works.
One idea is to encourage people to like the page in any way possible, even by giving away something worth a good amount of money. I saw one Facebook page giving away free tickets to a mixed martial arts fight, in exchange for a like on their page.
The problem with this strategy is that one like is probably not worth enough to justify any large expenditure.
If you pay for a Facebook Ads campaign, and then try to encourage likes by giving away free stuff, you may end up losing money, and not have that much to show for it.
In my opinion, the best way to use Facebook like pages is to make sales or get email opt-ins directly from the page.
You can have video, audio, photos, Pay Pal buttons, and opt-in form, or an entire mini-site on your Facebook page, and while a like is a good thing, it’s not everything.
The Value Of A Facebook Like
You can buy likes for a couple of cents each, which may have the same value as likes which cost you ten dollars each.
The idea is to create a viral element, if you’re going to give something away. I would only give away something for free if that person liked the page, and shared it with all of their friends.
If a couple of their friends did the same, then that could start a domino effect of likes, if the free stuff was good enough to make it go viral.
Whether you call them Facebook like pages, Facebook landing pages, or a Facebook Welcome Page, what’s important is that you get a good return on investment, and a single like on it’s own is not worth all that much. Would you employ the same strategy on your site?
